Review of
Brown Lures

Without a doubt, it is important to go with soft plastics that you have confidence in that offer enticing movement and durability.

I use the tails by Brown Lures. Just like Laguna Rods, the jigs are made in houston. Hand poured by Jake and Jason Brown and their elves at the shop, Brown Lures are strong and can take the strikes from countless teeth and still hold up. Not to mention, the brothers are constantly tweeking the products according to what is pleasing anglers most.

The new line of Devil Eyes no longer have the glued on eyes and now have painted eyes like Corkys that will not come off. Eyes on soft plastics are a trademark for Brown Lures and could easily be a deciding factor for getting sluggish trout to bite.

The Original tails are the original inventions of Paul Brown, Jake and Jason's grandfather, who also makes Corkys. Smaller than the devil eyes in size, the tails are colored from the Browns' immense pallet.

Plum/Chartreuse, Red/White, Black and Chartreuse, and Bone/Chartreuse are always in my box.

The Brown Lure Solo is a new creation. The mullet immitation is weedless and recieves thumps from specks that will make your head spin.

The split tail soft bait has a sink rate faster than a corky but slower than a soft plastic. I've caught fish while retrieving it during early mornings within thick grass beds, over deep shell, and on sand bars within West Matagorda Bay.

I have been asked about how well the semi-weedless hook works. I wondered the same for a while.

You really have to sit and wait for the pull. Keep the line tight and wait-just like you would with a topwater.

Small trout will occasionally thump it and miss. I was fishing near Port O'Connor one morning and experimented with the bait.

Trout were nailing my broken back nearly every cast and the majority were small. I put on the solo and I continued to catch fish. I immediatly recieved strikes. I waited to set the hook; it was on my first cast, about half way in, when the biggest trout of the morning nailed it. We had fished for over an hour and had plenty of fish but the next three fish I caught using it were bigger than what we had caught using topwaters and soft plastics. The lure may or may not end up needing some tweaks with the hook but it is without a doubt a trout magnet. I cannot wait to try it in new areas where I desire a big bait that can slide through thick grass.
