I love the fall season! Bowhunting and deer season are in full swing, birds are working in East Matagorda and I'm sure the reds are schooling up nicely. Not to mention, from the reports I'm getting, the specks are smoking Corkys.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to take much advantage of the fall season yet. I have had my head buried in the books in Aggieland. My weekends have either consisted of A&M tailgates, studying, or trips to the bow stand. My summer preparations for bow season paid off and i was able to harvest my first and biggest bow buck in Jackson County. (Picture and Video Below).

I plan to guide for most of December and into January this year. If you have interest, send me an e-mail: kyle@kyletomek.com. I do not know where I plan to guide most of my charters but it will likely be in either East Matagorda or Port Mansfield. Same thing goes for this summer.

To sum it up, I wish I had some new pictures or videos for you but my remaining semesters aren't allowing for it at the moment. Stay tuned, however, I think the upcoming weeks may supply me with some breaks. No worries though, I am excited about December and January. I know exactly where I can expect the same big girls to show up this year!

Boat For Sale - September 20, 2009

Below is a very nice boat that I decided to post for my good buddy. I have fished many days off of this rig in the last year and can attest to its fantastic abilities to handle chop and maneuver. It really does eat up the chop as good, if not better than any other 20 ft boat I have been on. It would make a great tournament boat or trout fishing rig for someone that favors good handling, smooth riding, and getting to the spot first.

New Testimonial 8-24-09

The following is a testimonial sent to me by e-mail from Patrick McNutt describing the trip he took with me this summer in Port Mansfield. He fished hard and was one of the best clients I have ever had on my boat:

"Reflecting back on the fishing trip on the way home from Port Mansfield to San Antonio I realized that we accomplished the fishing scenario in which I had contemplated the weeks prior to the trip.  That is to be on the water prior to day break in mild wind conditions either wading or drifting a flat throwing tops or soft plastics to get a feel for the mornings bite.  Then in the 9-10 o’clock hour move to a flat after the sun came up and sight cast with a fly rod to redfish foraging for bait across the flats but in our case it turned out to be large schools of black drum that would be our quarry.

You had asked throughout the morning for my opinion of what I would like to do.  My response was literally open ended.  I knew what that was but I wanted to see if the scenario would unfold as I had anticipated.  There are not many times that an idea comes to fruition. In this case the scenario had played out as surmised.  When I suggested that we return to the dock for the day my day of fishing had been fully satisfied.  But even more satisfying was returning home to my family, cooking fresh fried fish, drinking a cold beer and watching my son Nick grab that list piece of fish off the serving tray.

Thanks for your great service Kyle.

NEW PICS POSTED: 8-15-09

August 9, 2009 4:00
Fished with two boats today for a half-day trip. One group was split with the men and the other with the ladies. We all drifted-same spot as yesterday in about chest deep water over sand and grass. We threw tequila gold jigs and red/white soft plastics on 1/8 ounce heads. Together we put 25 trout in the box before we started looking for redfish. An hour or two later, the redfish were found and we scored 9 reds all around 22-27 1/2 in the box using the same artificial tails. The wind picked up and we were back in Port by noon. (Pictures 8-10)

My group of 8 joined us again for another wonderful day in Port Mansfield. The morning was calm and wind gradually increased. We started off around east cut drifting. All five us drifted over waist to chest deep water throwing pumpkinseed/chartreuse brown lures. As the wind gradually increased, so did our fishing success. Each drift was lengthy but produced more and more trout. We moved closer to a water color change and stayed on it. After a few hours we had our limits of trout and started looking for reds. We succeeded in catching and releasing some nice trout but no reds this trip. My group had a great time and I look forward to hopefully guiding them on another trip soon. They fished hard and I think they really learned how to work a plastic tail really well. (pictures 6-7)

Group of 8 fished with me in Port. Arlan Smith and I each guided four. We started off on a grassy flat in waist to knee deep water that we routinely fish. Bait was loaded but wind was dead calm and we struggled at first boxing only a few keepers each. We gave it time and stretched out another wade with similar results to put close to two limits of trout with a red in the box-a great start.
Arlan made a drift south of port over potholes while I went back to where we have been smoking redfish and found them schooling once again, this time in deeper water. We picked up a trout and a black drum on dark strawberry and white brown lures before joining Arlan's group for another wade on a shallow expanse swarming with potholes and grass edges. This is where we pretty much stayed bowed up until we decided to call it a day. Big reds to 27.5 inches and keeper sized trout smoked tequila gold jigs and red & white brown lures. We finished up with 33 trout and 8 monster reds. (pictures 3-5)

Went out again this afternoon, for a relaxing trip. Drifted with soft plastics in 15 mph winds. We drifted over sand and grass. 9 redfish and 16 redfish hit the box with four anglers. (Pictures 11-15)

Later bite this morning with San Antonio angler Pat McNutt. The winds were light as soon as we left Port. 1/8 ounce heads on tequilla gold gave us a consistent bite with smaller fish just under the mark. The wind made an instant shift at 9:45 and keepers started eating. We boxed the trout for the cooler and started working on trout with topwaters and achieved landings of a few over 20 inches.
We moved into another spot where weve been hitting redfish and black drum around mud boils and we started putting it to 'em. Pat and I had double hookups and started to cast fly at them before the wind really picked up. We had several nice shots but we struggled to connect. Capt Danny Neu and his group Scott Ison and son William had similar results today and hung with the black drum and eventually found full limits of redfish with 10 year old William boxing his first red he casted and caught on his own.

Spent the morning at the Port Mansfield Jetties. We threw light colored soft plastics on 1/2 ounce jig heads and caught three gag grouper, a limit of trout, and released a 33 inch ling. All on soft plastics. (picture 2)

August 4, 2009 3:00 pm
Arrived to the spot at 9am and we drifted shallow grass flats with tequila gold colored soft plastics on 1/8 ounce heads. Started off with dark strawberry and white but it didn't produce as it usualy does in the spot. Switched over to tequila gold and a nice trout took over on the first cast. In two drifts, full limits of trout were had and we began releasing trout. We had three over 22 inches with one near 25 inches.
We began looking for redfish and after a five minute boat ride put us to where we began seeing mud boils. Three big black drum were boxed on soft plastics.
Went to the jetties and caught three gag grouper and even more 20-inch specks. (picture 1)
